Road Trip to Lagos (April 13, 2009)

*This is a termite mound. They are everywhere and they are so big. This one was probably 9 ft high. If you can get past the yuckiness you will learn that this clay soil mixed with the sacritions of the termites is essential in their bead making. I am sure they must use it for other things too. More on that when you read about the bead factory.

*You can bricks or fruit. Guess what that fruit is...It looks like a lime or lemon but it is an orange. They are not very good at all. As a matter of fact I accidentally smuggled an orange through customs and forgot about it for a few days. It did not look appealing to me when I found it beat up in my bag. we peeled it and it was not very good by our standards but Tammy and Rusty were so excited about it they ate it and said it was delicious.

*The only animal life you will see in Ghana is the chickens, goats, cows that roam everywhere. They are all so skinny that they look like thy have a disease. As far as elephants, giraffes and lions...they ate those all up years ago. Al that is left are mostly in central Africa and in sactuaries.

*This is a little village on the way to Logos. We were going to go on a boat to the islands off the mouth of the Volta River and see some other  villages...that was the plan anyway.

When we got the sky got a little dark and teh boat guy said we might want to wait a few minutes for the clouds to blow through...

A few minutes later it looked liked this. We waited under the covered porch of a resturant for 1 1/2 hours but it did not let up. But even though I was a little bummed it was so nice and cool and peaceful to sit and listen to the rain. Rusty even put 3 chairs together and went to sleep. Ryan shared a roll of mentos with a little African girl. It smelled so refreshing.

Driving back home in the rain all those wondering goats were huddled under the grass thatched eves of the huts trying to stay dry. After taking this picture I realized that this hut was full of people.

Ryan and Tammy feel asleep on the drive back but I interigated Rusty on the people and culture in Africa and how the Church works with al their traditions and tribes.

It was a good day!
